Swedish Marine Science conferencePå svenska
The Swedish Society for Marine Sciences (Svenska havsforskningsföreningen, SHF) organises the Swedish Marine Science conference (Havsforskningsdagarna) once a year. The conference is an interdisciplinary marine conference where scientists, officials, consultants, biologists, chemists, oceanographers, engineers and geologists meet and share their experiences and knowledge during a small-scale, 2-3 days conference.
Anyone who works in Sweden within marine research or monitoring, or otherwise take particular interest in questions concerning our common sea-areas and marine environmental issues, are welcome to take part in this conference. Participants are welcome to present their work in the form of an oral presentation or poster, and the SHF-committee also invites some speakers of current interests to the conference. In a unique way, the SHF-conference presents a selection of the latest research and current projects that goes on within Sweden, or with Swedish participants.
To introduce participating members to different institutes, work-places and field stations where marine science and education is taking place, the conference is held in a different city each year. The conference usually attracts between 50 and 100 participants, and this small format is excellent to create a familiar atmosphere with lots of discussions and an opportunity to create valuable contacts. PhD-students get a lot of feed-back on their research-presentations and get introduced to their possible future employers. The Swedish marine science conference is therefore an ideal opportunity to create new ideas when participants discover their common interests in research, monitoring and sampling facilities.
Swedish Marine Science Conference 2017
We are happy to announce that the Marine Science Conference (Havsforskningsdagarna) 2017 will be held at the Lovén Centre Tjärnö, Nov 29 - Dec 1.This year, the conference will put your field of research in a wider perspective with invited speakers from natural as well as social sciences. The conference will end with a panel discussion about current trends and future challenges in marine science.

The Marine Science conference 2015
November 18-20 in Lund
The marine science days 2015 had 49 participants out of which 19 were students/young scientists.
The conference offered very inspiring and professional talks by the invited speakers, with a wide range in knowledge within the field of marine research. Students of senior researchers also gave scientific talks and listened to other presentations regarding on-going marine research in Sweden. Together, the speakers covered all marine research disciplines within the natural sciences (biological, chemical, geological and physical oceanography), but the participants were also introduced to interdisciplinary aspects of policy making and the importance of marine science to the whole society. The possibility to discuss on-going research with scientists from other marine disciplines was highly appreciated. For young scientists and students, the conference offered an opportunity to broaden their knowledge within the marine sciences. The conference was also an opportunity for all participants to make new connections for future co-operation.
Invited keynote speakers at the Marine Science Conference 2015:
- Professor Michele Casini, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Lysekil, Sweden
- Professor Hans Hanson, Lund University, Lund, Sweden
- Dr.Emma Kritzberg, Lund University, Lund, Sweden
- Professor Catherine Legrand, Linnæus University, Kalmar, Sweden
- Professor Caroline P. Slomp, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands
The Marine Science Conference 2014
The conference 2014 has come to an end, and we look back at three well-filled days in Umeå. The organizing committee wishes to thank our sponsors, keynote speakers, other speakers and participants for a very nice conference. We will now take a breather, but shortly the planning for the Swedish Marine Science Conference 2015 will take off. Keep an eye on our webpage!
